- King Ottokar's Sceptre is first published in book form.
- As a result of the position taken by Hergé in favor of the Chinese people in The Blue Lotus, he is invited to China by the wife of Chiang Kai-Shek, the leader of the Republic of China. However, the imminent start of World War II in Europe prevents the visit.
