Bab El Ehr is an gun smuggling commander, and enemy and the dictator of Khemed of Emir Mohammed ben Kalish Ezab. He is considered to be a villain by many ways.

History

He first appears in Land of Black Gold when Tintin was knocked out by a gas bomb and his men brought him to their campsite.  Bab El Ehr first thought that Tintin had news about his guns, and when Tintin shows that he was not the man he was looking for, he was accused of as a spy, then tied up and marooned in the desert.

and is later mentioned in The Red Sea Sharks. Playing a major behind-the-scenes role in the latter, he forces the Emir to abdicate, resulting in Abdullah being sent to Marlinspike for protection. At the close of The Red Sea Sharks, he is overthrown and presumably executed after the Emir is reinstated.
