The Grand Abbot is the head Tibetan Buddhist Monk of the Monastery of Khor-Biyong.

History[]

It is the Grand Abbot who orders for the care of Tintin, Captain Haddock, Tharkey and Snowy at the monastery until they are fit to leave. During their stay, the Grand Abbot tells Tintin  to abandon his quest and return to his homeland. However, at the conclusion of Tintin in Tibet, the Grand Abbot leads a ceremonial emissary group of monks, who present Tintin  with a silk scarf in honour of both the bravery he had shown, and the strength of his friendship with Chang.

Trivia[]

  • The Grand Abbot is similar in appearance to the previous Dalai Lama Thubten Gyasto who was Dalai Lama from 1879 to 1933.
  • He calls Tintin 'Pure heart' and Captain Haddock 'Furious thunder.'
