The Jolly Follies is a performing clown group led by Jolyon Wagg whom appear in Tintin and the Picaros.

When Tintin and his other allies were residing in General Alcazar's camp during the adventure's events, Jolyon Wagg, group of tourists, and the Jolly Folly performers unexpectedly arrived at the camp onboard a bus. Although the Jolly Follies are intended to perform at the international carnival parade taking place at Los Dopicos, Tintin comes up with the idea of using the group's costumes as a disguise for the Picaros to aid them and General Alcazar on the revolution to overthrow General Tapioca and rescue Bianca Castafiore and the Thompsons from being imprisoned and executed.

Portrayal[]

The general act, nature and traits of the Jolly Folies is characterised by colourful, silly-looking outfits of mostly red, blue, green, and black accents, white masks with painted on moustaches and long noses, often playing obnoxious-sounding instruments randomly, and various hyperactive dances. In the Eclipse-Nelvana adaptation of Tintin and the Picaros, they are usually accompanied by jovial, energetic music.

Trivia[]

  • Professor Calculus was the only ally of Tintin and Alcazar who did not disguise in a Jolly Folly costume, mainly due to how he (alongside Snowy) did not take part in the process of events underwent of the revolution and goal in Tintin and the Picaros' story.
