Flight 714 is a two-part episode in The Adventures of Tintin, produced by Ellipse-Nelvana, based on the book of the same name by Hergé. This was the final episode of the show's second season.

Changes from the Book

In this episode, Roberto Rastapopoulos and his gang use dynamite instead of explosives to destroy the statue. Also, Rastapopolous says that he was planning to shoot Doctor Krollspell, whereas in the book he merely says "eliminate", and does not reveal his plans for the other crew members or the Sondonesians. The group was hypnotised after they aboarded the ship. Allan Thompson was not beaten up by the Sondonesians, neither did he lose his teeth. Also, the shootout that Tintin and Captain Haddock have with Alan and his men is longer than in the book.

In the end, the spaceship drops Dr. Krollspell off in India; in the book it drops him off in Cairo, Egypt (although the original French version also had Krollspell transported to India). The group is hypnotized after they get on the spaceship; this is perhaps more believable as the volcano was about to explode. Jolyon Wagg and his family is omitted from this episode. Mik Kanrokitoff's Russian accent is toned down in this version. Also, Tintin does not reveal his plans for catching the next flight to Sydney to Collin Chattermore so it is unknown whether Tintin actually went to Sydney after being interviewed.

Production errors

  • When Mik uses hypnosis, his eyes change colour at times. In the scene where Mr. Carreidas is hypnotised while blaming Tintin for stealing his hat, Mik's eyes flash grey and white. When he uses mass hypnosis on the group after they board the spaceship, his eyes flash grey and blue. When he says "You will be forgetting everything about this island", they flash green and whitish grey. When he tells the group to board the safety raft, they flash clear and white.
