- "Hello! I can hear you!"
- —Iago
Iago is a vocal parrot who was given to Captain Haddock a gift from Bianca Castafiore upon her arrival at Marlinspike Hall for a holiday in The Castafiore Emerald.
Iago could memorise the Captain's curses. This vocal irritation of Haddock is also complemented by his tendency to bite the Captain's finger or no reason.
History[]
The Castafiore Emerald[]
Iago was given to Captain Haddock as a gift from Signora Bianca Castafiore, when she arrived at Marlinspike Hall. Though the Captain was shocked by this gift, he accepted the parrot. While Haddock was tickling Iago's beak, Iago bit the Captain's finger.
Fate[]
- "Blistering barnacles! That's the end!"
- —Iago, after he is set free.
After Castafiore left Marlinspike, Captain Haddock set Iago free.

- Iago is named for Othello's ensign and tempter in Verdi's opera Otello (and by extension the Shakespeare play off which the opera is based).
