Jolyon Wagg (French: Séraphin Lampion) is an outgoing, simple, and overbearing man who enters the story by barging in uninvited to Marlinspike Hall.

History[]

He is disliked strongly by Captain Haddock, who finds Wagg frustrating, although Wagg remains completely oblivious to this, believing himself to be a great friend of the Captain's. Wagg is portrayed as an ignorant tourist in the exotic locations in which Tintin and Haddock have their adventures. Wagg is an insurance salesman by trade, working for the "Rock Bottom Insurance Agency." As a result, he often tries to sell insurance to other characters he encounters. Wagg appears in Flight 714 book but in the TV episode he is notably absent.

Wagg appears four times in The Calculus Affair, inviting himself inside Marlinspike Hall, interfering with a critical radio transmission, repeatedly interrupting Haddock's phone call to Nestor, and moving into the Marlinspike Hall with his family for a holiday while Tintin, Haddock, and Calculus are gone. Wagg re-appears later in the series where his self-importance and insensitivity enrage Captain Haddock.
