Li's original design as Cheng as seen in the book series
In his debut and only appearance, Li was a employee of the Blue Lotus Nightclub serving opium to customers. Originally, he was affiliated with Kih-Oskh Brotherhood.
Notably however, his role was greatly expanded and altered in the Ellipse-Nelvana adaptation of The Blue Lotus, where he replaced Chang (The Blue Lotus)'s role, an undercover member of the Sons of the Dragon and saves Tintin's life and sanity from Mitsuhirato by substituting Rajaijah Juice with colored water, who was a worker of Wang Chen-Yee saving Tintin.
