Tintin Wiki

The Marine Shop Owner[1], also known as the Bookseller[2] is an elderly shopkeeper is former seaman who appears in Red Rackham's Treasure.

History[]

He first met Tintin and Captain Haddock when they visit his naval store in hopes of purchasing diving suit equipment for helping with extracting remains from The Unicorn. It is heavily implied he has had a rich history in seafaring, as his shop is flourished with many naval antiques, sculptures of aquatic creatures, and indigenous artifacts. It was also he who predicted that Tintin and Haddock would not find the treasure of Red Rackham at sea or at the island Sir Francis Haddock once resided at.

Other Portrayals[]

Although he does not appear in the 2011 motion-capture film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, he does appear in its video game adaptation where he is present at the Old Street Market when Tintin encounters one of the models of The Unicorn being sold by Mr. Crabtree. The Marine Shop Owner was also the one who tells the history about the ship and the Haddock family to Tintin by sharing a book about them.

Trivia[]

  • As the video game based on the 2011 film was likely based on an earlier version of the storyline, it is possible that the Marine Shop Owner was meant to appear in the film, but was removed from its final cut.
