Peter Clarkson was the press photographer who accompanied the Sanders-Hardiman Expedition to South America. Upon returning home to Europe, he became a victim of a black magic spell which caused him to become insane, the same spell cast upon the expeditions other members. After Tintin convinces the spell's caster to lift the spell he is returned to his normal sanity.
