The Shark-Proof Submarine is a submarine which was invented by Professor Calculus in order to search for the treasure of infamous pirate captain Red Rackham. It can go down to 900 feet and has two hours' worth of oxygen. The submarine can be piloted in a level of the video game Tintin: Destination Adventure.

Red Rackham's Treasure

When Tintin and Captain Haddock planned an expedition to look for the wreck of the Unicorn and the treasure of Red Rackham, Professor Calculus approached them, with a sharkproof submarine. The pair refused, so Calculus dismantled the submarine, placed it in crates, and snuck them onboard the Sirius after dumping the captain's whiskey, much to Haddock's chagrin. Tintin and the Captain decided to use the machine to find the wreck of the Unicorn.

After returning home Professor Calculus later sold this submarine to the government for enough money to buy back Captain Haddock his ancestors mansion Marlinspike Hall.

Physical appearance

The submarine is shaped like a shark. It can seat two people, has an oxygen supply for two hours and can go down to 900 feet.

There is also a smoke canister, which can be used as a signal.

  • Ocean explorer Fabian Cousteau (grandson of the famous oceanographer Jacques Cousteau) design a submarine that resembled a great white shark, which was inspired by the submarine in Red Rackham's Treasure. However, Cousteau's submarine could fit one person.
