The wiki dedicated to Herge, his life, literary works and the The Adventures of Tintin series of graphic novels.
This wiki, which anyone can edit, adopts an in-universe perspective when writing about Herge's works of fiction.
This wiki supports the work of Wikipedia and is a complement to that wiki.
Why don't you do this on Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is totally cool and all that, but it deals only in facts. So an article (about Captain Haddock, say) on Wikipedia might read like this:
Captain Archibald Haddock is a fictional cartoon character in a series of graphic novels created by Belgian cartoonist Herg...
Tintin Wiki is able to run the same article like this:
Captain Archibald Haddock is Tintin's best friend and travelling companion...
Initially, articles from Wikipedia may be copied to here (because they are a valuable source of copyright-free material) but Tintin Wiki can grow in its own way eventually. Have a look at the Harry Potter Wiki to get an idea of the potential. Please remember though, we are not trying to reproduce Wikipedia. Ensure that your articles with more general subject titles reflect our interest in Tintin.
What Tintin Wiki is...
To a great extent Tintin Wiki is precicely what Wikipedia is not: Here are some Wikipedia "nots" that might be quite acceptable on Tintin Wiki:
- 2.1 Wikipedia is not a dictionary - Tintin Wiki can define unusual terms used by Herge
- 2.2 Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought - Tintin Wiki accepts articles containing original research, including opinion, conjecture and speculation
- 2.4 Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files - Tintin Wiki welcomes all of these
- 2.5 Wikipedia is not a social networking site - Tintin Wiki is a great place to meet other Tintin fans and exchange ideas and news
- 2.6 Wikipedia is not a directory - Tintin Wiki will have lists of Tintin related links and books etc.
- 2.7 Wikipedia is not a manual, guidebook, or textbook - Tintin Wiki encourages educating and elucidating of Herge's works
- 2.9 Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information - Tintin Wiki is not indiscrimnate either, but we welcome comprehensive and complete (including trivial) information about Herge and his creations
Style
- Italics for names of boats, books and direct quotes from books by Herge.
- but don't un-italicise names of boats etc within italic text, like this because it's ugly
- 'single quotes' for names of songs, poems, chapters and direct quotes from books not written by Herge
Adding content
- Tintin wiki has two list of articles that need help called "Stubs" and "Wanted Articles". Blistering barnacles, don't be shy, get in there!
