Tom was a criminal affiliated with Al Capone. He was only seen in Tintin in the Congo.

Tom was first seen as a stowaway on an unnamed ship and was attempting to drown Snowy.

Tom as seen in the book series
As his plan had ultimately failed, he later appeared in the Belgian Congo and stole Tintin's jeep while attacking Coco. When Tintin tried to hit him with a coconut, he missed, and Tom tried to kill Tintin with a shotgun, only being overpowered by monkeys, who threw coconuts at him, and was captured.
However, he escaped at nightfall, and then the next day, he met Muganga and thought about a plan to eliminate Tintin, such as stealing a sacred statue. Coco thankfully saved him from certain death, and Tintin, having escaped from Muganga's clutches, even managed to record a conversation between Muganga and Tom while having dinner at night.
The next morning, as Tintin made the tribe realize that Muganga had made fun of the idol in that recording, both Muganga and Tom were seen being chased by the tribe.
Tom then instructed Muganga to fire an insulting letter towards King M'Hatuvu, triggering him to declare war on the Babaro'm people to kill Tintin, which failed.
When he told Munganga about the plan that Tintin was to go leopard hunting, Muganga then plots to kill Tintin by making it look like a leopard attacked him, but again, Tintin survives and even saves Muganga from a boa. Then Tom hit Tintin, and Snowy with a gun, attempting to make Tintin and Snowy get eaten by crocodiles and boas, which failed again.
Then, disguised as a priest, he took Tintin's gun and got punched by Tintin. He captured Tintin again and tied him up into the waterfall. He even tried to cut the rope so that the Missionary Priest fell with Tintin. However, Snowy chased him off. Finally, out of bullets, Tintin fought Tom, both falling, as Tom fell into the pond, ultimately getting devoured by the crocodiles.
