Yves Rodier

Yves Rodier (5 June 1967) is a French-Canadian comic strip author who produced a finished version of Tintin and Alph-Art. He also wrote several Tintin pastiches. Besides his Alph-art, one of the most famous pastiches by him is Tintin, Freelance Reporter. It is a spin-off Tintin adventure set chronologically before Tintin in the Land of the Soviets. Its pages explain how Tintin got his job as a reporter. Rodier created the story for a contest but did not win as he was disqualified for using already existing characters.

Also he planned to finish Hergé's unfinished draft A Day at the Airport, but it wasn't completed and only 4 pages drawn by him are available now.

History[]

Rodier has been a life-long cartoonist, and got his start working on zines and fan comics. When he was 19, he began working on a completed version of Tintin and Alph-Art, based on Hergé's script and storyboards, which had been collected and published in 1986 by Casterman Publishing. This work caught the attention and appreciation of Hergé's former apprentice and employee Bob de Moor, though Moulinsart Co. refused to publish Rodier's version.

Since then, Rodier has gone on to find success as an independent cartoonist. Series he has created or worked on include Pignouf et Hamlet, Simon Nian, and El Spectro. Occasionally, he does work on Tintin fan works; these are usually signed "Rodier d'aprés Hergé".
